The incident began about 5 a.m., when the Inland Valley SWAT team, comprised of officers from the Colton, Fontana and Rialto police departments, arrived at a home on the 1200 block of West 17th Street (map).

They were serving a search warrant for a man later identified as 20-year-old Jorge Alvarez.

Six people were inside the home, ranging in age from 15 to 75, officers determined, according to a news release from the Fontana Police Department.

Officers had information that Alvarez had high-powered assault rifles inside the home, prompting them to evacuate 10 homes in the surrounding neighborhood as a safety precaution.

After officers deployed flash-bang devices and broke windows by firing rubber bullets, there was initially no response from inside the home, police initially said.

In the news release, Fontana police said Alvarez and the five others came out of the home about 9 a.m. without incident after “continuous efforts throughout the morning to make contact.”

Two assault rifles and three attachments, including a grenade launcher, were found inside the home, along with ammunition and about 1 pound of methamphetamine, said Martha Guzman-Hurtado, spokeswoman for the Fontana Police Department.

Two men and one woman were taken into custody on suspicion of drug and weapons charges, the release stated They were all booked into West Valley Detention Center.

Children who were in the home were released to their parents, who were not in the house, police said.

San Bernardino Police Department Lt. Richard Lawhead initially described some of the people inside the home as victims, but said no one was being held against their will.

Authorities initially said only Fontana police responded, and they gave a different block for the address of the confrontation.

About 200 people were leaving Stingers Bar and Nightclub in the 100 block of West Club Center Drive (map) just after 1:45 a.m. when the gunfire erupted, according to the San Bernardino Police Department.

A separate but likely “related” shooting also occurred at an Arco gas station located about a quarter-mile down the road, according to San Bernardino police Lt. Rich Lawhead.

Dozens of rounds were believed to have been fired by multiple shooters between the nightclub and the gas station, Lawhead said.

A total of seven victims were located between the two scenes.

The two victims who died were identified as Petetrial Michael Scott and Jerry Jamale Jackson, both of San Bernardino.

Of the five people who were injured, two were in extremely critical condition, according to Lawhead.

A motive for the shooting was not immediately known, but the area was known for gang activity, according to Lawhead.

“We do believe that this is a gang-related shooting,” he told reporters at a news conference before dawn.

One witness, Eugene Jones, said he was telling clubgoers to leave the building when he heard shots ring out outside the building.

Three of his friends were among those hit by the gunfire, according to Jones, a nightclub promoter who was working at the time of the incident.

“I walked to my friend, and she was shot. Then I looked around and they said my other friend was shot. Then I walked outside and they said my other friend was shot,” he said.

“It’s kind of heartbreaking,” Jones added. “I don’t do the club events for this to happen.”

Investigators remained on the scene throughout the morning as they combed for evidence and searched for clues in the area.

Several hours after the shooting occurred, dozens of family members and friends of the victims were involved in a “disturbance” at Loma Linda Hospital, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

Approximately 75 people became “uncooperative” and “combative” with hospital personnel after they were told one of the victims had died, a news release from the department stated.

No one was hurt in the connected incident.

The two people, whose identities have not been disclosed, may somehow be involved in Sahray Barber’s disappearance, a news release from the San Bernardino Police Department stated.

Barber was reported missing Monday morning after she was expected to take a bus to her job at The Art Institute but failed to show up at the location. She has not been seen since.

Some of Barber’s belongings were found in bushes inside the the complex of her apartment building in the 1500 block of West Northpark Boulevard (map), but San Bernardino police Lt. Rich Lawhead said Wednesday there did not appear to be any indication of a struggle.

Barber’s apartment is across from street from Cal State San Bernardino, and initially they were initially looking into whether her disappearance was related to a string of recent assault at the campus

In the Sunday news release, police stated they now do not believe it’s related.

Investigators have asked anyone with information about the case to call San Bernardino police Detective Al Tello at 909-821-8507 or Sgt. Carl Williams at 909-693-6665.

More than a week after the “suspicious” disappearance of a San Bernardino woman, she was found in good physical condition, according to police.

Sahray Barber was last seen leaving her apartment on March 9 in the 1500 block of West Northpark Boulevard (map), Lt. Rich Lawhead of the San Bernardino Police Department stated in a news release at the time.

Police quickly called the disappearance “suspicious,” primarily because some of her belongings were found in bushes near the complex and the fact that she lived across the street from Cal State San Bernardino, where a string of crimes, including an attempted sexual assault and kidnapping, were recently reported.

There was no indication of a struggle, investigators said.

Police said Sunday there were two “persons of interest” in the case, but did not provide further details.

Nearly a week later, police said Barber was located in good physical condition and reunited with her family, a news release stated.

“There are several questions that will need to be answered in the coming days as investigators in the case were given conflicting information (from) several people who were directly related to the investigation,” a news release from the San Bernardino Police Department stated. “We are happy to report a good ending to a very serious case.”
