Dashon Raymond White, 24, is seen in a photo released by Riverside police on Dec. 14, 2018.

Three men and a juvenile have been arrested in connection with robbing more than a dozen AutoZone stores across San Bernardino and Riverside counties at gunpoint, police announced Friday.

The crime spree started with two masked gunmen entering an AutoZone in San Jacinto on March 21, holding an employee with an AR-15 style rifle while cash was stolen from the store, according to police. The suspects were all taken into custody following a police chase Wednesday night.

More than 30 AutoZones across San Bernardino and Riverside counties were robbed the same way in the months after, with robbers holding employees at gunpoint in every instance, Riverside Police Sgt. Trinidad Lomeli said.

He said police have connected the four suspects to at least 17 of those robberies so far.

In at least one of the robberies, a store manager was held at gunpoint and taken to the back of the store to open the safe, Lomeli said.

Jada Shardae Allen, 18, is seen in a photo released by Riverside police on Dec. 14, 2018.

Stores in the cities of Grand Terrace, Riverside, Menifee, Jurupa Valley, Perris, Hemet, San Bernardino and Redlands were all targeted, police said. Riverside faced the most robberies, with a total of eight.

The suspects were finally captured Wednesday night when Fontana police and other investigators were doing surveillance on AutoZone stores within the city.

They have been identified as 19-year-old Daeon Raishawn Cox and 24-year-old Dashon Raymond White of Moreno Valley and 18-year-old Jada Shardae Allen of Perris. The fourth suspect’s identity has not been released since he’s underage.

About 8 p.m. on Wednesday, law enforcement officials stopped the suspects just as they were trying to rob an AutoZone located in the 14000 block of Baseline Avenue in Fontana.

From there, the suspects took off in a vehicle and led officers on a chase — at one point throwing a loaded AR-15 rifle from the vehicle that was later recovered, according to police. The pursuit ended in Rancho Cucamonga.

A man being transported to a mental facility in Torrance attacked two ambulance drivers and took over the vehicle, leading authorities on a pursuit in the Inland Empire, the California Highway Patrol said Monday.

An ambulance carrying Joseph Matthew Machado, a 30-year-old Perris resident, was headed to the South Bay around 4 p.m. Sunday when he allegedly assaulted the emergency workers and stole the ambulance.

Officials previously said the patient was restrained in a gurney and somehow broke free before taking control of the vehicle.

CHP said its officers in Riverside were chasing the vehicle until San Bernardino units took over on northbound Interstate 15 near Glen Helen Parkway.

Machado was driving up to 80 mph until a spike strip, deployed by San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies near Main Street in Hesperia, forced him to veer right and crash into a ditch, CHP said.

The man then ran out of the vehicle into a dirt field east of Mariposa Road, where he was apprehended by officers before 5 p.m.

Authorities took Machado to the Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton for assessment and treatment. Neither he nor CHP personnel sustained any injuries during the incident, according to officials. The agency did not provide details on the condition of the ambulance workers.

The 30-year-old could face charges of carjacking, felony evading, hit-and-run, vehicle theft and assault on emergency personnel, CHP said.

The incident remained under investigation.

Mountain coastal slopes of San Bernardino were soaked with 3 to 6 inches of rain in just the past several hours, officials said.

Meanwhile, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department warned of driving risks along flooded streets, reminding drivers to pay attention to road signs.

Man Killed in Crash Caused by Suspected DUI Driver in San Bernardino Was Driving Wife, Daughter Home From Hospital, Family Says

$

The man killed in a crash caused by a suspected drunk driver in San Bernardino last week was driving his wife and 14-year-old daughter home from the hospital after the teen had suffered an asthma attack, his aunt told KTLA Thursday.

It was just around midnight last Friday when Kortni Vinson, a 26-year-old Rialto resident, sped through a red light in a Dodge Calibur heading northbound on Sierra Way, authorities said. She struck a Chrysler 200 that was driving through a green light at the intersection with Highland Avenue.

Vinson was believed to be drunk at the time, police later said.

Both vehicles spun out of control upon impact, and the driver inside the other vehicle was killed. He has been identified by coroner’s officials as Richard Cuthbert of Redlands.

Cuthbert’s wife and teen daughter were also injured in the collision, authorities said. Nearly a week later, on Thursday, his wife is still being hospitalized after her pelvis was fractured and will need to undergo extensive rehabilitation, according to his aunt, Tanya Fowler.

His daughter was left with a broken arm, nose, collar bone and a fractured sternum, Fowler said. After having surgery on her arm, the 14-year-old was released from the hospital and is currently staying with relatives while her mother remains in the hospital, she said.

Vinson, meanwhile, was hospitalized and said to be in stable condition.

Cuthbert, 40, had three children and worked as a driver for Renzenberger Transportation, according to Fowler. She said he worked at the railroad, transporting workers there, and described him as a “devoted father,” in an email to KTLA.

“He was one of the most thoughtful people you could meet. He loved to laugh and loved people,” Fowler wrote. “He didn’t have a lot, but he would be willing to give you the shirt off his back.”

According to Fowler, Cuthbert’s landlord told another relative he had discovered someone in their housing complex who overdosed on drugs just three days before he died, and he helped save her life. “He was just that kind of guy,” Fowler wrote.

The loss of the 40-year-old father of three has been devastating for his loved ones.

“Our family will never be the same,” Fowler wrote. “Not a day will go by that we won’t think about what her carelessness has taken from us, and I hope she thinks about it everyday for the rest of her life as well.”

Fowler has set up a GoFundMe page to help with funeral expenses, medical costs for the two injured and other expenses following the passing of Cuthbert, who also went by his middle name Dwayne.

“Dwayne was the only breadwinner in the family, so his death along with mounting medical bills puts his family in a very tough financial situation,” the page reads. “Our first priority will be laying Dwayne to rest, but all donations that do not go toward Dwayne’s final expenses will help with medical bills and living expenses for his family.”

On Monday, police urged possible witnesses to the deadly crash — specifically a white pick-up truck there at the time — to come forward.

Anyone with information can reach Sgt. Harvey or Detective Peck at 909-384-5791.
